Microsoft has confirmed the launch date of Windows 10.

Windows 10 logoWindows 10 will launch on 29 July 2015, Microsoft’s head of operating systems Terry Myerson said on 1 June.

Microsoft’s announcement follows a report by The Verge in which AMD CEO Lisa Su said Windows 10 would launch at the end of July.

Myerson said that for the first year after release, existing Windows 7 and 8.1 users will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10.

Windows 10 will receive a number of new features and updates, said Myerson:

1.    Cortana – Microsoft’s personal assistant with natural language processing capabilities. Similar to Siri and OK Google.

2.    Microsoft Edge – Formerly known as Project Spartan. The new web browser set to replace Internet Explorer.

3.    New Office on Windows – Redesigned universal Windows applications for Word, Excel, and
  PowerPoint. OneNote and Outlook included with Windows 10 for free.

4.    Xbox Live and the integrated Xbox App – Microsoft promised to bring new game experiences to Windows 10.

5.    New Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People, Mail & Calendar apps – Updated designs for Windows 10.

6.    Windows Continuum – Move from tablet (touch) to PC (keyboard and mouse) and back again.

7.    Windows Hello – Log in without a password using biometric (face, iris, fingerprint) authentication.

8.    Windows Store – Desktop apps are now availabl  in Microsoft digital storefront for Windows.
