DMX has been sentenced to six months in jail due to unpaid child support.
The 44-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is accused of not paying $400,000 (£256,000).
DMX was put in a holding center in Buffalo, upstate New York, on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the New York City Sheriff’s Office told WPIX-TV that he was arrested before a scheduled performance at Radio City Music Hall on 26 June in New York City for several “issues outstanding”.
Those issues included a warrant issued by the city of White Plains, New York, for bail jumping and a robbery complaint made in Newark, New Jersey.
No charges have been filed in the Newark case.
DMX being jailed means he’ll miss several live performances including Shaggfest, which is taking place in Virginia Beach.
Trey Songz is headlining the festival on 25 July.
The 44-year-old was arrested for marijuana possession in 2013 two days before he was due to appear in court on drink-driving charges.
He was also charged with not having a driving licence.
Earlier that year he filed for bankruptcy protection in New York.
Court papers showed he had less than $50,000 (£32,000) in assets and was between $1 million (£639,000) and $10 million (£6.4m) in debt.
He was jailed in Arizona in 2010 for several drug-related probation violations and was held on drug and animal cruelty charges in 2008.
His most successful record in the UK was 2003’s Grand Champ which made it to number six on the Official Album Chart.
DMX won favourite rap/hip-hop artist at the 2000 American Music Awards.
