Football-Arsenal plan to sign Di Maria

Di Maria

Arsenal are planning a move for Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria in what would likely become the summer’s biggest deal, according to The Telegraph of London.

The Argentine international did not have the best of starts to Premier League life, after signing for United for a whopping £59.7 million; and amidst the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Old Trafford, the Gunners are hoping to swoop in.

However, while a deal of around £55-60 million could be seen to be within Arsenal’s financial framework, the North London club would no doubt struggle to meet the player’s £280,000 per week wage demands.

The ex-Real Madrid star may have failed to live up to expectation last season, but United want to give him another opportunity to prove his worth to the club, and not let him move to a Premier League and title rival like Arsenal.

Manchester United simply would not sell to a rival club, particularly in regard to a player of Di Maria’s calibre.

Di Maria made 27 league appearances for United last season, registering just three goals and eight assists; while he started well at Old Trafford, he largely struggled to find form after October.
