The authoritarian nation announced it has a drug that can prevent and cure Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Ebola, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) and even Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (Aids).

News agency AFP is reporting the secretive state has not provided any proof, and the claim is likely to provoke widespread scepticism.

The claims come as rival South Korea fights an outbreak of MERS that has killed two dozen people and sickened more than 160 since last month.

There is no known vaccine for the disease.
