EFCC arrest‎ Nigeria Popular blogger over Cyber charges, Nigerian React!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Monday, arrested popular Nigerian blogger, journalist and publisher of abusidiq.com, Mr ‎Abubakar Sidiq Usman‎, over alleged cyber crimes.


EFCC correspondent Uwujaren said that Abubakar Sidiq Usman, who is the publisher of ‎Abusidiqu.com, was picked up at his resident Kubwa, Abuja e in the early hours of Monday August 8, 2016 by operatives of the EFCC. The arrest was contained in a statement issued by EFCC spokes person, Wilson Uwujaren.

According to the statement, Usman was arrested ‎‎for offences bordering on cyber stalking.

He said Usman is currently interrogated over the alleged offence, which contravenes sections of the Cyber Crime Act.

Uwujaren ‎stated further,”the suspect has already been offered administrative bail and would be released to his elected sureties.”

If charged to court, Mr Usman would be the third blogger (Seun Oloketuyi and Emmanuel Ojo were arrested in 2015) to be arrested under the Cyber Crime Act, which was signed into law in 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The arrest has been widely condemned in the  social media  with #FreeAbusidiq hash tag being used to demand for his trending on twitter release.
